STEM Workforce Development Program

The Our Purpose Project STEM Workforce Development Program is a community-based initiative designed to prepare individuals of all ages for career pathways in STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Open to youth, young adults, adults, and career-changers, the program emphasizes access, exposure, and practical skill-building for today’s and tomorrow’s in-demand careers.

Through structured workshops, hands-on learning, and strong community partnerships, participants gain the tools, confidence, and guidance needed to pursue education, certifications, employment, or entrepreneurship within STEM related industries. The program supports both youth and adults in building purposeful, sustainable careers through training, mentorship, and direct exposure to professional environments.

Our Purpose Project proudly partners with Disney, along with local businesses, employers, and community organizations, to provide real-world learning experiences, career workshops, and workforce connections that open tangible pathways to success. Participants develop essential skills in communication, professionalism, and career readiness while exploring industries aligned with their interests and strengths.

Through our Tech for Success initiative, we also work to close the digital divide by partnering with Digitunity to provide computers, connectivity, and technology training. Participants build critical digital and job readiness skills from resume creation and online job applications to mastering essential tools that increase employability in a technology-driven workforce.

By combining opportunity with access, the STEM Workforce Development Program empowers individuals to discover their potential, build confidence, and take purposeful steps toward long-term economic stability and personal growth.

Target Outcomes

Participants in the STEM Workforce Development Program will experience:

Increased awareness of STEM career options and pathways

Improved digital literacy and job readiness skills
Greater confidence in pursuing education, training, or employment in STEM fields
Completion of resumes, job applications, and interview preparation
Increased access to technology and workforce resources
Stronger connections to employers, mentors, and training partners
Participants securing employment, internships, certifications, or enrollment in education or training programs

STEM Workforce Workshops

Workshops remain the core of the program and are offered year-round. Sessions are designed to be accessible, practical, and relevant for participants at all stages of their career journey. Workshop topics include:

Introduction to STEM career pathways and industry trends
Technology and digital literacy (resume building, online applications, workplace tools)
Coding basics, AI awareness, data, and emerging technologies
Engineering, innovation, and problem-solving fundamentals
Professional communication, workplace etiquette, and interview preparation
Entrepreneurship and small business development within STEM-related fields

Career Exploration & Industry Exposure

Participants gain real-world insight into STEM careers through:

Guest speakers and industry professionals
Career panels and community talks
Employer-led workshops and demonstrations
Internships or site visits (when available)
Exposure to a wide range of STEM industries aligned with local workforce demand.

Tech for Success Initiative

Through partnerships such as Digitunity, the Tech for Success initiative works to close the digital divide by providing:

Access to computers and connectivity
Technology training and digital literacy support
Guidance on using digital tools for job searching and professional development
Support navigating online platforms for employment, education, and certification programs

Workforce Readiness & Career Support

Participants receive individualized and group-based support to strengthen employability, including:

Resume and cover letter assistance
Job and internship application guidance
Interview preparation and mock interviews
Referrals to certifications, training programs, and workforce partners
Support for adults re-entering the workforce or transitioning careers

Community Access & Inclusion

The program is designed to remove barriers and ensure broad participation:

Open to youth, adults, seniors, and career-changers
Available to the entire community
No cost participation
Inclusive programming that meets participants where they are, regardless of prior experience
