A Community Table Initiative is a cultural and community-driven program by Our Purpose Project, Inc. designed to bring people together through food, heritage, and meaningful connection.
We believe that food is more than nourishment it is culture, identity, storytelling, and unity. This initiative celebrates diverse cultures by highlighting a traditional dish, providing families with culturally themed grocery bags, and creating a welcoming space for shared learning and community bonding.
Each Community Table event showcases a different culture by offering:
Culturally themed Purpose Bags filled with ingredients tied to a traditional dish
A tasting experience for families without kitchen access
A cultural storytelling table featuring flags, history, artifacts, and recipes
Family-friendly engagement that promotes unity, dignity, and inclusion
A Community Table Initiative was born from a deep belief that every culture deserves to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
Our founder, Sandra Célan Prevalus, is Haitian and a first-generation American. She grew up understanding the power of cultural identity, tradition, and the importance of ensuring that families, especially immigrant families, have access to the foods and customs that connect them to who they are.
This initiative reflects that lived experience and expands it to honor all cultures represented in our community.
We focus on:
Cultural inclusion
Food access with dignity
Community connection
Education and storytelling
Celebrating the people we serve
Each event is designed with intention, heart, and authenticity.
Every Community Table highlights one culture at a time, offering:
Purpose Bags – culturally themed grocery bags with ingredients, recipe cards, and cultural notes.
A Tasting Table – a small meal or portion for those without resources to cook.
A Cultural Display – featuring history, flags, tradition, art, and heritage.
Community Engagement – volunteers, partners, families, and local leaders come together to share and celebrate.
